Tokai-Gakki Guitars started making guitars in the 1960's but it was in the late 70's and early 80's that these instruments made their mark on the international scene. These were high quality copies of Gibson and Fender instruments which in some quarters were regarded as better quality than their American equivalents. The Tokai's paid close attention to what made the orginal vintage guitars great and reproduced this down to the last detail. The Tokai range is still regarded as one of the best alternatives to the American giants.
Tokai have made acoustic guitars since 1970 as well and have made very successful copies of Martin guitars as well as guitars for Martin themselves! Brian May still plays a Hummingbird he has had for years. These guitars are built to the same high standard as the electrics whether Japanese, Korean or Chinese manufactured. All the guitars feature solid tops with a variety of body timbers on offer.
