Effects

Roger Mayer has been making effects pedals since the early 1960's when he produced pedals for his friends Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck and then went on to produce effects for Jimi Hendrix including the famous Octavia. Roger has not been content to live in the past and continues to move forward with new designs and improvements to the originals. These handmade pedals are impecably put together and will last a lifetime of gigging. The pedals can be used to recreate the vintage tones of the past but are versatile enough to enable the adventurous to produce entirely new sounds.

All the Roger Mayer effects allow the natural tone of the guitar through - one of the big advantages of analogue circuits and allow control of the signal from the guitars volume control without the effects losing clarity. As you might expect Roger's attention to detail through careful component selection and circuit design makes all these pedals extremely low noise.

The 'Rocket' effects are battery only and will not work with standard power adaptors. However they can be used with a power supply which can use a PP3 style adapter such as the Voodoo Labs or Rothwell and they look so good they have to be worth the effort.

Roger Mayer Concorde +
Roger Mayer Concorde +
The Concorde is an updated version of the classic 60's treble booster with increased versatility. The drive control sets the input signal into the treble boost and this has sufficient range to overdrive the treble boost circuit. Once the drive control goes beyond 12 o'clock the unit really starts to sing giving a nice smooth sustaining distortion with plenty of gain at max. The tone section is passive and whilst not having a massive sweep has a nice musical range without any loss of clarity. As with the Voodoo 1 this has the ability to make an amp sound huge. his pedal has two buffered outputs and one hard wired for true bypass. There is a 9V DC in and the simple battery access cover.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Blues
Roger Mayer Voodoo Blues
The Voodoo Blues is a dual purpose pedal intended to create a clear overdrive that allows for the playing of chords and also to provide a clean boost. The pedal creates a dynamic overdrive that retains clarity making it, as the name suggests, ideal for blues. However, there is still enough drive here for rock playing and the lower gain settings can be usefully used for any style where your sound requires a bit of an edge. The fatness control gives a wide range of tones from a really trebly bite through to great fat tones for low string riffs. The pedal has two buffered outs and a hard wired true bypass out. Can run off 9V battery or 9V DC in.

Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz
Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz
The Axis is named after it's use on the track 'Axis Bold as Love' and it is a superb Fuzz box. This gives your tone real bite for solos but without any loss of depth so it is equally at home with riffs and power chords. A sign of a quality effect is that this cleans up very musically using the guitars volume control. This is one of the higher output effects in the range so can drive your amp quite hard.

Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz
Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz
This is the classic Fuzz sound of the sixties with a few tweaks to improve on the originals. Unlike a vintage Fuzz Face this pedal uses specially selected Germanium PNP transistors so no need to search for a good one! If you need that vintage fuzz sound then look no further this is the one!

Roger Mayer Mongoose Fuzz
Roger Mayer Mongoose Fuzz
The Mongoose is the highest gain pedal in the range but it is not a modern metal 'scooped' sound -this is a much thicker sound with loads of bottom end and smooth compression. This has the advantage over many other high gain pedals and 'simulations' in that note separation is still superb even with the distortion full on. The full bass is great for riffs and power chords and is great if you have a lot of space to fill in a 3 piece band.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Boost
Roger Mayer Voodoo Boost
The Voodoo Boost can give a significant clean volume boost which at its maximum can drive an amp very hard. Dialling in the Drive control brings in some great harmonic distortion which can be wound up to seriously high levels of distortion. The fatness control gives a really musical control over the overall tone whilst retaining the clarity of the guitars own sound. This pedal has two buffered outputs and one hard wired for true bypass. There is also the simple sliding battery cover and a 9V DC in.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe +
Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe +
Now updated as the Voodoo Vibe + with a new pulse square waveform, an expanded symmetry range and an expanded speed to the sweep generator.

The Voodoo Vibe is an evolution from the Uni-Vibe type effects and provides Chorus, Vibrato and Tremolo options. This is all analogue class A circuitry with an extensive array of controls to tailor the effect to your preference. All the sounds have that beautiful analogue warmth that you would expect but with a fantastically clean signal path. The controls are very wide ranging and interact with each other so it does take a bit of time to get to know the effects on offer, which range from subtle musical enhancements to dramatic special effects. The speed of the effect can be controlled by an external volume pedal and there are two buffered outputs which will drive two separate amps. The unit can run off a 9v internal battery or a 9v DC supply.

Roger Mayer Voodoo One
Roger Mayer Voodoo One
The Voodoo 1 is a great distortion pedal offering a bright sound which is perfect with humbuckers. The fatness control adds some real bottom end depth to the sound. As with all Roger's pedals this one cleans up nicely from the guitar's volume control with no loss of tone. This pedal really lifts an amp making it sound much bigger, and be warned - this definitely sounds best with your amp turned up! This pedal has two buffered outputs and one hard wired with a 9V DC in.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Axe
Roger Mayer Voodoo Axe
The Voodoo Axe is the Vision version of the Axis with the addition of the Fatness control to tighten the low end and maintain clarity. This makes it especially good for detuned guitars. As with the Rocket Axis this is a high output pedal which can be used to drive the amp in conjunction with the pedals distortion. This pedal has two buffered outputs and one hard wired for true bypass. There is also the simple sliding battery cover and a 9V DC in.

Roger Mayer Stone X
Roger Mayer Stone X
This pedal is an update of the modified fuzz pedals of the 60's. A great fuzz tone which at full tilt has plenty of gain but produces some nice subtle tones further down the scale. This pedal has a high output which makes it great for combining the fuzz with some natural drive from the amp.

Roger Mayer Octavia
Roger Mayer Octavia
The Octavia is probably Roger's most famous design unveiled to the public on the intro to Purple Haze. The Octavia can produce sounds varying from the subtle to the extreme depending on signal fed into it. The sound can be reminiscent of a ring modulator on clean sounds but driven with distortion will produce notes an octave above the original. The effect works best on solo lines and is most pronounced on the high E and B strings and you will definitely be rewarded with a better sound with some precise playing. This may not be a general purpose effect but when you need something a little different this can really produce the goods.
