A single cutaway body with a set mahogany neck - a simple straight forward guitar that plays well and sounds great. Plenty of depth from the humbuckers with plenty of top end - no muddiness here. The coil-tapped single coil sounds are amongst the best there are, convincing sounds with plenty of power - not the weak sounds you get from some guitars. As with all GS guitars the tone controls are actually quite useful throughout their range which can be useful in rolling off the top end with a bright amp. The guitar is finished in high gloss to the front and satin to the remainder. The bridge is the standard GS type which is stable and fully adjustable. There are few guitars in this price bracket that play and sound as good as this.

A classic rock guitar here and one that suits the Gordon Smith philosophy of stripped down simplicity. A plain red finish that lets the grain show through the slab front. The mahogany neck is also finished in the red and sports a rosewood fingerboard. The electrics are 2 coil-tapped humbuckers through individual volumes and tones (volume is pull switch for coil tap on each pickup) and the hardware is chrome with a Tunomatic style bridge. The humbuckers here are very bright and clear (and powerful!) and work well with the guitar tone (a novelty!) to give a variety of sounds - tone full up gives you a very bright distinctive tone but backing it off a couple of notches gives you a much more traditional humbucker sound. The coil tapped tones are amongst the best we have heard - not thin and weak at all but really useable. What this means is that this guitar ticks all the right boxes as a rock guitar but one that really works well for clean rhythms and more intricate parts. As with all GS guitars the value here is obvious - a handmade guitar for only £575.

A familiar silhouette here, with the classic set neck single cutaway design in a high gloss Wine finish to the front(pictures below are definitely better for the colour than the one on the left!). The neck is mahogany with a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard and a brass nut. Electrics are 2 humbuckers through two volume and two tone controls with a three way selector. Both humbuckers can be coil tapped by pulling the volume controls. As with all GS guitars the humbuckers are bright and clear and can be rounded off with the tone controls for some thicker more traditional tones. The coil tapped tones are really useful and great for funky rhythms as well as stinging leads. The tone controls on this guitar actually work and should really be experimented with as there are a lot of tones here worth investigating. This is a great workhorse guitar and far more versatile than it might first appear.
