CABLES

Why should you buy a quality cable????

You do care about your tone don't you?

It is a constant source of amazement to us how many people spend a fortune on their gear and then baulk at spending a few extra quid on a decent cable. We can categorically assure you that they do make a difference - we have tested the cables that we stock and proved it to ourselves - you should do the same.

The Hifi world has known for a long time that quality cables can make a big difference to the sound of a system and a guitar rig is no different. Your cable should not be the weak link in the signal chain - it should let through the sound of your guitar with power and clarity. A poor cable will pick up interference and quickly degrade to leave you with crackles and noise which you would never put up with from other part of your rig.

Solid Cables came about through a frustration with the limitations of other standard cables. Nial McGaughey is a professional musician and like many of us had problems with cables cutting out on stage which is unacceptable - unlike the rest of us he decided to do something about it and make his own cables that he could feel confident in. The quest then became one for tone as well as durability and then nothing but the best would do.

The cables are made from oxygen free copper conductor and  hand soldered with premium grade silver alloy solder. All the contact surfaces use audiophile grade metal preservative to prevent oxidation. The cables feature triple strain relief with a woven braid outer shielding. The plugs are satin finish metal nickel diecast and all the mechanical components are chemically welded together. A 6000 psi tear resistant outer armour makes these seriously roadworthy.

Lastly we need to point out that, yes, these cables do sound better - the sound is clearer and more powerful - more of your guitar signal is getting through - that has to be a good thing! Secondly there is much less interference, something There is no doubt these are expensive leads but we believe they are a worthwhile investment and the only choice to complement the best amps and guitars.

Try the cables for yourself - if you do not feel they are significantly better than what you are using now then bring it back within 7 days for a full refund. Solid Cables are also guaranteed for life - anything goes wrong bring it in and walk out with a new one.

The Chord Company will be well known to those of you who know your Hifi and you will also know that they make very good cables and these cables have won many awards. They have now turned their attention instrument cables.  The new Cream range of cables is the result of a great deal of research into not only what makes a great cable but what makes a good instrument cable - in particular the need to use materials that are sufficiently flexible and robust. The Cream cables, naturally use oxygen free copper which not only sounds better but stays sounding better for much longer (less oxygen to make the copper oxidise). The screen of the cable that reduces interference is made of a twisted pair design with cotton spacers which also helps to minimise mechanical noise. The cables are balanced - i.e. a send and return conductor and a shield are used with the shield connected at one end so it is not part of the circuit. Even the insulation, low density polyethylene,  has been carefully chosen for its electrical properties as well as its durability. To cap it off the cables are terminated with Neutrik jacks.

Most guitar leads are available with straight or right angle jacks. Also available are Speakon leads, SPDIF, AES/EBU, Toslink, Multicore and all types of balanced leads. Give us a call and we can usually get hold of anything you want.

George L's cables are the highest quality and are used in all sorts of high end audio products including Carr Amps. They are thinner than traditional cables but are every bit as good and can run for long lengths without compromising the signal quality - there is no signal loss here like you might get with some other cheaper cables. These are very durable cables which offer a significantly better sound than most traditional guitar cables. The solderless connectors are every bit as good as a traditional soldered jsack with the added advantage that should there ever be a problem simply cut off the end of the cable and reconnect.

The solderless design makes it easy to make up cables to exactly the right length to keep that pedal board tidy no matter how complicated the routing may be. Making up a cable is very easy but if you want us to do it for you - no problem. Right angle and straight jacks are available.
